The Chapman Residences

The clients approached the project as a family partnership: the parents owned the block and were ready to downsize, while their adult children hoped to develop the site in a way that supported them.

The brief called for a dual occupancy design that delivered two distinct homes on a single block, one tailored to the comfort, accessibility, and long term needs of the downsizing parents, and the other designed for one of their children and their family. The goal was to create a cohesive development that balanced independence with proximity, allowing both households to thrive while maximising the value and future flexibility of the property.

The completed detached dual occupancy development makes highly efficient use of its 920 m² subdivided block, delivering two well resolved homes that balance individuality with a cohesive architectural identity. Across both dwellings, generous proportions, raked ceilings, and thoughtful planning create a sense of openness and ease that supports multigenerational living without compromise.

House One offers 181 m² of single level living tailored to accessibility and long term comfort. Four bedrooms, two living spaces, and a master suite with walk in robe and ensuite provide ample flexibility, while a dedicated laundry and a full butler’s pantry enhance everyday functionality. The adjoining outdoor spaces are designed for low maintenance enjoyment, giving the home a calm, practical rhythm.

House Two extends over 225 m² across two levels, delivering a contemporary family focused layout with its own distinct character. Like its neighbour, it includes four bedrooms, dual living zones, a generous master suite, and well considered service areas including a butler’s pantry and separate laundry. A plunge pool anchors the outdoor living area, creating a private retreat that elevates the home’s lifestyle offering.

Both dwellings are supported by dedicated double garages and private garden areas, ensuring each home functions independently while contributing to a unified streetscape. The result is a pair of highly liveable residences that maximise the value of the site, support the needs of two generations, and offer enduring appeal for future occupants. The project’s design excellence was recognised with the 2025 HIA ACT/Southern NSW Townhouse Development of the Year award.
